Is this lyme disease??

Question Posted Saturday August 15 2009, 10:14 pm

Ok well I've had this bizarre rash for a while. I'd say about a month. When I first got it it was all red and I thought it might be a spider bite because I live in the mountains. After that, it got all pale white in the center and the red ring remained. My friend told me that it looked like ringworm but I've been putting topical cream on it and it hasn't gone away yet. It's started to fade over the weeks and I thought that maybe it would go away completely.

Today I finally decided to find something that would work on this kind of bite but I was shocked to find that it could be potentially dangerous. The picture of my arm is recent, but the rash was a lot more red before. I live in an area with ticks and it is summer so I guess that it would make sense. I live in southern california by the way. Does anyone know if this could be lyme disease?

Although we can all hazard guesses at what it could be, the only person who can give you a conclusive diagnosis is a trained medic.

I highly suggest you go and see your doctor because if this is something serious, it really isn't worth risking going on guesses.

Well I can't say for sure but that looks extremely similar to Lyme disease. Plus Lyme disease can be caused by deer ticks(when they bite you) and you did say the area you live in has a lot of ticks in the summer. I suggest you get to a doctor to get it checked out because early symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, depression, and a characteristic circular skin rash called erythema migrans which aren't THAT bad but Left untreated, later symptoms may involve the joints, heart, and central nervous system. In most cases, the infection and its symptoms are eliminated by antibiotics, especially if the illness is treated early. Late, delayed, or inadequate treatment can lead to the more serious symptoms, which can be disabling and difficult to treat. Occasionally, symptoms such as arthritis persist after the infection has been eliminated by antibiotics.
So please go get it checked out!
Hope I helped!
