In search of good anime suggestions

Question Posted Sunday August 9 2009, 11:14 pm

I am really getting into watching anime. I'm watching a few anime series right now, like:

Bleach
Code Geass
Spiral
Reborn
Kamichama Karin
Ghost hunt
Fate stay night
Kyou Kara Maou!

I'm looking for an anime were the main character gets stronger throughout the series though. Preferably they have a power of some sort and they don't know about it at the beginning, you know? They learn about themselves throughout the series and uncover a lot of hidden abilities.

I don't mind fighting scans or action, but not all the time. I need a short line! Mystery and suspense are good additions in an anime too. The plot has to have twists and turns keeping me on the edge, of course, otherwise I will just get bored with it. I guess that's why I am drawn to the ones where the main character is finding new traits about himself/herself. Yeah, it doesn't matter if the main character is male or female.

Sorry that is sounds like I'm so picky when it comes to anime. I just REALLY want a GOOD one that I can get into and enjoy. I like the ones I'm watching but I am still looking for more, of course. Any suggestions?

Go old school: Ranma 1/2. It's pretty lengthy, but very funny. Basic premise: Ranma Saotome and his father are highly skilled and competitive martial artists. They go to a special place in China to train, but accidentally fall into some magic springs. Now when Ranma has hot water poured on him, he turns into a girl until doused with cold water. His father tunrs into a giant panda. Add the various members of the Tendo Family School of Unrestrained Grappling, and hilarity ensues. Naruto is definitely a great anime to watch that meats your requirements.
yuyu hakusho
Dragon Ball z is a classic and might be a little too much fighting for you.
