Why did I call my friend on the phone in my sleep?

Question Posted Sunday August 2 2009, 3:22 pm

I am sure I went to bed at 1am last night. About 2pm today, I found out that I had called one of my friends on the phone at 3:30am, but I don't remember calling and I know I hung up when I heard the voicemail because she didnt get a voicemail and she didn't answer the phone because she was sleeping ><;;;

Shes not on my speed dial and I can't just press a button to call on my phone. I have to actually turn the screen on and press a button.

I have been known to talk in my sleep and to appear as if i'm awake while talking. I dont know how often, but my friend say it happen a couple times last summer. (i'm 18)

I would say it was either like sleepwalking, or you actually woke up, but forgot you woke up and called her.

But, it's probably sleepwalking. I know a few people that have done weird things in their sleep, like stand up on their bed, and then like fall over, because she thought she was diving into a pool. I've also had other friends like gnawing on their pillow, thinking it was food. I've had friends get up, turn on the TV or something, and then go back to bed, and then wonder how the TV got on.

My point is, our brain is most active at night, so maybe you just called her while you were asleep, obviously without knowing it. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I completely believe you and understand. I sleepwalk and talk and all that stuff too. I also notice that sometimes I have these random people that I know, but not really well in my dreams. That probably happened to you, even though you might not remember your dream, you probably had one with one of your friends so you decided to call them. I think its freaky how your brain can actually function and look up your friends number without you being aware of controlling it!! haha.

Calling someone while your sleeping..is like sleepwalking. Many people aren't even sure why these things happen. It can be something you're wanting to say subconsciously (which would also explain the talking during sleeping). I have a friend who used to talk in her sleep all the time..it was because her parents were going through a nasty divorce, and although she never showed her anger, it showed during her sleep. I, also, have "sleep texted" people sometimes. It happens to many, so don't think you're odd or anything. I'm honestly not sure why you'd call your friend, especially since she's not even on speed dial. Who knows..maybe you woke up for a little while and called her? You should bring this up to your parents or even a doctor. They could probably help you!
