Im going to be a sophomore in high school, and im a girl. I wanna try out for the cross country team, but haven't run like all summer! What is a good work out routine to get me in shape? Like not only running, but for my abs and my legs and arms, ya know? THANKS
Start out running half a mile a few times a week for 2 weeks, then increase to an entire mile. THEN run two miles. DO push yourself, but know your limits.
As for the abs and other body parts, try Yoga. I'm not kidding. I started doing Yoga and I love it. It also really helps tone you up and make you stronger.
Also: make sure you're eating healthy. Eating healthy foods will help improve your performance AND give you energy to work out in the first place :)
Good luck and if you need any more help, send a question to my inbox!
della22 answered Friday July 31 2009, 1:22 pm: you have to start out running 5-6 days a week. Start out running 2 miles. really push your self. its best to run on trails or around your neighborhood, or any where, where there is a change in your environment, so sometimes you'll be running up hill and sometimes downhill. Do the two miles for the first week, then the second week move it up to 3 miles. Continue to add a mile every week. Make sure you stretch before, and after!! its more important to stretch after because it releases all the lactic acid that has built up in your muscles.
For your abs and arms...they will naturally get intone from all the running you will be doing, but if you want to do more, do 300 sit ups 3 times a day. I can 100% guarantee you this will work as long as you stick to it. For the arms...depends on what type of muscles you are trying to build. since your a girl I'm guessing you don't want big bulky muscles so do high reps of push ups or other arm workouts in which you use your body as resistance.
