Question Posted Tuesday July 28 2009, 5:15 pm

I am over weight! I am 5'8 and weight 30 pounds more then I should! I start high school in 1 week and 2 day! I know there isn't anyway to loose 50 + pounds by then but is there anytips or advice someone can give me to help me diet in high school!

I have tried weight watchers and the stuff in magazines. But I just can't seam to keep up with anything! Also I hate excersise I need something fun that will work and not get boring. Because I hate those walking movies. Some stuff I have it home is a treadmill, ab loung, and a bo flex. But I would rather not use the bo flex it is alot of trouble to deal with.

SO can someone suggest ideas to help me eat right, and home and at school. And/ also how to exercise and keep up with it and not get bored or lazy!

How do you walk a full 20 on the treadmill with out just quiting?

I am so stressed please help.

Hello. I think I'm a good person to help you out here, because I lost 30 pounds before I started high school =) I'm still a bit overweight, but healthy eating has literally saved me.

The most important thing is to know WHAT you're eating. It's my opinion that keeping track of your food every single day is obsessive, and leads to future problems with food. However, I recommend doing it for about a week. Write down how much of something you're eating (measure your cereal and milk, etc). The biggest thing for me was realizing what a serving of, well, ANYTHING, was. Once you realize that you're eating four servings of ice cream at once, you'll learn to cut down to a scoop or two, and pair it with some fruit. Little things like that, it made a huge difference for me.

Also, eating healthier doesn't have to be a chore or a pain in the butt. As I mentioned before, eat something that isn't so healthy with something better for you, or replace it entirely. Like if you want cheese curls after school, have some cheese and crackers instead. Real food = better food. If your school lunches suck (Mine aren't so bad, because we have a deli line and salads) pack your own snacks and sandwiches. If things get soggy before you can eat them, bag the elements of a sandwich separately and assemble at lunchtime.

Throw an apple or two in your bag before you leave for school. Bag up some baby carrots, or buy cheese sticks, yogurts, etc. Anything healthy that's portable will prevent mindless snacking.

Drink lots of water, juice, and milk before you reach for things like soda. Water, especially, is important because it regulates your body, prevents dehydration, and makes you feel better in general. Lots of people eat when they're thirsty, because they think they're hungry.

The best way to complete a workout is to not be bored with it. When I went on vacation, I was doing hour long elliptical programs without even knowing it because the hotel I was at had televisions on all the equipment. So try to put the treadmill where you can see a TV, or download some shows to your Pod, or just listen to music. And envision your "healthy" self when you're feeling discouraged.

If you have On Demand, look for a Health/Fitness section. I order free workouts on there and they're really fun.

Good luck, and feel free to inbox me if you need anything else =]
