i can't put a tampon in...like i can't see my vagina when i bend over and i found the hole but i don't want to force it in you know? how hard are you suppose to push? and whats the best position so i can actually see what i'm doing/ thanks. i'm a virgin btw so could it be that i'm that tight to where it won't fit? i'm using the smaller/regular ones to start too.
Additional info, added Thursday July 9 2009, 12:47 pm: okay so i just tried for the bajillionth time and i got it like halfway in then just gave up because it hurt ...and when i took it out it hurt too...i seriously want to go to the doctor or something because i've been trying for years and i can't do it. if i went to the gyno would they be able to help me? or would they just laugh? i seriously can't do this and i don't have a good enough relationship with my mom to ask her (and shes never used them either so it won't matter)...and i don't want to ask any friends.. They have positions on the instuctions in tampon boxes. [ lostbutfound's advice column | Ask lostbutfound A Question ]
DearAbby92 answered Thursday July 9 2009, 7:50 pm: It took me months to use tampons, but it was really worth it. I couldn't get it in at all, and it really hurt as far up as I could get it. Most of my friends have had the same experience. Your vagina is not used to having anything inside of it, and a tampon stretches it basically. Sex for the first time hurts because the penis is bigger than what the vagina is used to, and the breaking of the hymen in some cases.
I was only sucessful laying down. I laid on my bed and spread my legs and that was the best position for me. If you can get a hand mirror to help you see what you are doing it may be really helpful. Try different ones to see what works for you.
I read that you can practice by getting into a bathtub full of warm water so you are relaxed and just try inserting it. A lot of the tension is created by your frustration.
There are slender fit tampons for people with smaller vaginas that you can try, it might be easier for the first time, or you may find that your vagina is more on the "slender" side.
A cause of pain could also be your hymen. It is a flap of skin covering but not obscuring the opening of the vagina. Some girls are born without one, some girls have a hymen covering the hole completely and have to have it removed by a doctor. I broke my hymen inserting my tampon the first time. That might be whats paining you, so maybe if you cant get it in after some more trying, go see a gynocologist. If he/she is a professional doctor you will not be laughed at.

Push it in normal speed until its all the way in. Then push the stem down and pull the applicator out. There is also directions on the box. Hope this helps. Good luck.
