My periods are really bad now...heavy bleeding, blacking out...help!

Question Posted Monday June 29 2009, 11:06 pm

I have had my period for a little over three years now and I am getting worried.

It's been really heavy lately, like bleed through a tampon, pad, and my jeans! It's embarrassing that I have to keep a change of CLOTHES with me too when I have my period! It was not like this before and it seems to only be getting worse.

I also get really bad cramps, like where I "black out" for a minute or two and wake up on the floor. I get a fever, not terribly high, but it's still considered "a fever."
I can't talk to my mom about this stuff, she's one of those people who think feminine "stuff" is shameful and should be kept private. I am not sure what to do though because it's becoming a problem.

Any help is appreciated. :\

You need to see a doctor.
Set the appointment yourself and go.
The responsible party should be billed, meaning if you are a minor, they should bill your parents or their insurance. It is your PARENTS responsibility to make sure that you are in good health, whether the subject is taboo with them, or not.
In fact, ask about the billing when you set the appointment.

Fevers are one of your body's ways of telling you something isn't right.
Bleeding like that is outrageous.
I agree that you shouldn't ever need to change your clothes so many times.
Blacking out? That is not good, nor normal.

I'm SHOCKED that anyone would blow this off as being an ok or normal situation, rather than telling you that you need to seek medical attention for this.

NONE of this sounds remotely normal. Menstrual cramps or not nothing should be causing you to black out and wake up on the floor. You shouldn't need all of those changes in clothing either. If it's bleeding through tampons, pads, denim etc than it's not normal.

You should tell your mother what is going on. You should see a gyno pronto to get a grip on this and have it solved. There's things they can do or recommend to make this situation a lot better and regulate it.

The rule of thumb is that as long as you're not bleeding through an super tampon/pad in under 2 hours, you're good. Maybe its just that you're not using a strong/dense enough pad/tampon or you're not changing it enough?

Bad cramps are normal, my mom used to pass out all the time. (Luckily, those intense cramps skipped a generation, haha.) Try Midol or Tylonol for Women, and if that doesn't work, go to a doc for stronger pain meds.

A fever isn't considered a fever unless it's 100, according to my M.D. Some people just have naturally higher body temps than 96.6. Most likely in your case, there's so many processes going on in your body, with your period and all, and you're worried about it, so your temp spikes a little. Unless it reaches 99.5, no need to be worried.

If you are, in fact, bleeding on your jeans in under 2 hours while wearing both a super tampon AND super pad, go to the doctor. It could be something as simple as a hormonal imbalance that they can prescribe vitamins for.

Also if you're over 16 you may want to consider seeing a gyno if you aren't already.

Hope I helped, hon:)
