Firstly! old school but still kinda mainstream

Aesop Rock, alot of people like him but he's very unferground and not mainstream at all.

its slow to start but its great when it gets going
nice light hearted piano ridden tune.
anything by "Blacklicious" i suggest the song "make you feel that way"
"Blackstreet - No Diggity" havent heard any others except for that one
All of the following artists you can find on youtube, they are all pretty much underground. many of them dont have rap in them because they are by people who make rap beats. but every so often you find an amazing piece of lyrical amazment by some one you'v never heard of so give it a go! you wont be dissapointed (That if its the style your after ;D)

Evil nine isnt really rap, its a styled version of drum and bass i think. but they did a great song with "aesop rock" if you wanna try it type in "Evilnine Crooked ft. Aesop Rock" it should be a cartoony video. its kinda spacey and ambient i love it.

In addition to last.fm [as the previous person suggested] try www.pandora.com it's a personalized online radio, for free. I love it and use it nearly everyday.
But if you're just looking for artists.. I do love Gorilla Zoe [among others], and I don't think he's as popular as some other people.

Everyone has different taste in music and rap styles. So, what I like you may not like. here's my suggestion: Go to Lastfm.com... type in rap music as the genre and just listen to different songs and listen to other people's music lists. This way you can hear what you like and take it from there. Here are a few rap artists that I like: Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Goodie Mob, Outkast, T.I., Snoop Dog, Scarface and MJG and 8 ball..
