Okay, I'm a sophomore in high school and I do a lot of community service, such as playing music at nursing homes every month and volunteering around my hebrew school. But how am I supposed to be keeping track of this? I'm recording all the hours I spend in a notebook, but do I need "proof" of sorts for when I put it on a college application?
Additional info, added Wednesday May 27 2009, 10:25 pm: Wait, also, do I need any "official" documents or is a notebook with signatures and dates enough? Would a college ever require mailed-in proof?. Want to answer more questions in the Miscellaneous category? Supposedly, though, they have the power to call your school and confirm that you've actually accomplished what you claimed to accomplish. (Again, I've never heard of this actually happening.)
Either way, you should be fine, seeing as you're not lying about the community service you do. (Well done, by the way.) If for some reason they do contact you asking for "proof," you could easily give them a reference, someone who can verify that you do volunteer. Try to give an accredited reference (for example, mention the head of the hebrew school, not the friend you volunteer with.) And don't forget to ask permission before giving away someone's contact information! [ littlemisschatterbox's advice column | Ask littlemisschatterbox A Question ]

And that should be proof enough. You can also put the directors or leaders of the places you volunteer at as references (just ask them first!)
