18/F In the supermarket parking lot, I was approached by a homeless man and he said he needed money to go to the hospital. My mom was still inside the store, so I felt I should just give him what he asked for and I wouldn't have to worry about him harming me or anything. I gave him five dollars. However, I'm not naive. I'm aware that he could be buying drugs or booze with the money. What should I have done...? I felt too defenseless and scared to turn him away.
Next time, simply say "I don't have any money on me, sorry." Don't worry about him harming you, just make sure you don't come off weak or scared. You can also walk away while saying it, so you are not close to him. [ just_ask_me's advice column | Ask just_ask_me A Question ]

You can't do anything to fix it.
He didn't need money to go to the hospital. If you can't pay then taxes pay for it.
But still you probably did the right thing.
You never know how his life might be.
