Martial Art Sparring--Etiqutte When Sparring Against the Opposite Sex
Question Posted Monday April 27 2009, 4:17 am
Hello,
To be frank, where on earth should you hit when you are sparring against a girl anyway?
I am sixteen-year-old and I've practiced Shaolin Kung Fu for almost seven years now. Recently I've just sparred with this girl, who has practiced karate for over five years. And I've just faced the worst time of my entire martial art life.
Well, Shaolin Kung Fu can be somewhat flowery, and it is based a lot on footwork, balance, strength, and, most important of all, timing. The attacks aren't just individual attacks, they follow patterns. But it's really hard to keep my patterns from being disrupted when there are places I shouldn't follow through.
--The head/face . . . nope
--The chest and all of its strike points . . . might not be able idea to aim there
--belly, abdomen, and sides . . . yeah, sound alright, but shouldn't use full strength
--lower part of the abdomen/crotch . . . better not, else, I might really get kill <_<
--joints, elbow, knees, ankles, fingers . . . shatter them is a total no, but hurt them is fine, but shouldn't do so with the fingers.
--other places . . . yeah, sure, but not very effective.
So, you see, where my attacks are the most effective, I am restricted to not attack there.
Here are some examples:
--Countering a high kick with Bailing the Moon from the Sea is out of the question. It aims at the crotch. With street fight, great; while sparring with a guy, we just laugh it off; but with a girl, ehh. . . . I did used it, but instead of the crotch, I stroke the thigh area, but didn't look like it was very effective.
--Double Dragons Carry Pearl is another one that I couldn't use because it aims at the head.
--Fierce Tiger Descends from Mountain is another one that I couldn't use because it aims at neck, chest, and abdomen.
--Tiger Steals Heart (I think, I actually kind of forgot what this calls) is another one that I can't use because it aims at the chest.
--My punches and counter attacks are become a lot more difficult, too, because they are mainly aim for various places on the chest, which . . . not somewhere I hsould touch.
So . . . yeah, I am not like Jackie Chan in the movie so I can't really avoid and guard myself forever. I kept finding myself go out of bound while trying to avoid her attacks. Simple counters such as "lower my entire body, my right foot step on her left foot, and at the same time, rise my body up with an uppercut using dragon palm strike at the jaw" cannot be use, too =(
I won by continuously aim at her ankle, to the point that it hurts just to stand. Nothing is broken though, should heal after a few day. I didn't got any full hit either, except one kick in the face that I misjudged the distance a little and failed to evade it.
But in the future, I might not be as lucky. Already a rematch is asked. How should I deal with this then? I can't make up excuses to avoid the match forever >_<

Although if she is a girl that really wants to fight, and is though, you should treat her like a male opponent, except avoid the chest area... :P
However, if she isn't like that, then you could target any area of her body, under her chest. Although I wouldn't suggest kicking her in her womanhood :D
