Should I be insulted?

Question Posted Saturday April 25 2009, 12:56 pm

I'll keep this one short and sweet. I am a fourteen-year-old freshman girl. Well, I have a friend who apparently is bi-sexual, and asked out one of his friends who is a boy, and the friend said he didn't want to spoil their friendship, so it was dropped. But then, about a month later, my friend asked me out. Should I be insulted? I mean, I am in no way against gays or anything, but it is a little... I don't know. I do dress kind of boyish I will admit. I dress in zip-up hoodies that I find on sale in the men’s department, but I didn't know it was THAT bad. Should I take a hint, and change myself? Or, am I just over reacting?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help! :)

There is absolutely no reason for which you should be insulted. If anything, you should be flattered. It's just one more person who thinks you're a catch. You should not be prejudice against him because he "apparently is bi-sexual". Even if lesbians started hitting on you, you shouldn't be insulted. You should be yourself. I understand why you wouldn't want to date a bisexual guy, but it certainly doesn't mean that straight guys don't find you attractive.

You don't need to worry or be insulted. This guy is bisexual, not gay. This means he likes both guys AND girls, so he probably likes you for different reasons than he would like a guy.

There is seriously no need to worry or change yourself because of this.

Nope, don't be insulted. For one thing, if someone is bisexual, they are attracted to both sexes. So he could just as easily have been attracted to your femininity.

Second, even if he did think of you as kind of boyish, changing yourself is a bad idea. If you start changing to something you're not, it's going to get worse and worse until you're just doing a lame impersonation of yourself. If you want to start girly-ing up your wardrobe, though, do what you're comfortable with. A headband, a necklace, a ring, etc can be good contrast against a baggy sweater.

You're overreacting.

You type refreshingly well.
