is this normal?

Question Posted Wednesday April 15 2009, 6:15 pm

im in 9th grade, 14 years old, about 100 pounds, and 5'1", and i am COMPLETELY flat-chested. and when i say that, im not exaggerating. i don't just have really small boobs, there's nothing there at all. i have the chest of a seven year old. no one i know is like me, and i feel like im not normal. people say to be patient, but im so afraid ill never get them. is this possible?
p.s.: i've just started my period a little while ago, and all other signs of puberty are there.

I am not sure if you are asking this question from a medical perspective or you want it from other perspectives as well. I calculated your BMI (Body Mass Index) and found it to be 18.9. The normal BMI range is 18.5-24.9. So your weight is NORMAL and there is nothing to worry about. As far as the size of your breast is concerned, I think you are still quite young and I believe it will grow with age. Some people gain physical maturity very early, while others take a much longer time. Please be patient and wait until you reach the age of 18-20. Well, if you are too worried about it try to visit a medical specialist and ask for his help. If nothing works, well, there is not much you can do. Each of us has been created in a unique fashion by God. Our built-in-systems are different. So do not be concerned about something that you have not done to yourself. I can guarantee you not all guys want woman with large breast. There are nice guys who will like you only because of the nice person that you are. God, perhaps, did not want you to get involved with someone who is like most of everyone else. He probably has created someone very special in your life whom you have not met yet. The fact that your breast size is small can actually help you in getting your life partner. The man that will like you will really be very different from others (in POSITIVE sense) and will not love you merely based on physical appearance and beauty. It means your chances of getting TRUE LOVE in life ARE higher. So, why are you concerned about it? Live life and enjoy it. May God make your life filled with joy and happiness.

You are completely normal. Just because you've started your period already doesn't mean you're going to get boobs.

You'll get them eventually, just wait. You're only 14. Be patient.

So, well, to begin with, I am a 16-year-old male, finishing my 11th grade year. So please be aware that I don't know anything about women's "stuffs" and I also have no idea why breast size matters so much to women anyway, just like I don't understand why it takes almost half an hour for my friend to solve her so-called "shoes crisis" (happened several months ago, which made us almost late to the HOSA Officer State Conference >_<).

So basically this answer is from a guy's view, (well, a guy's view and a person who studies medicine's view), most likely it won't help you at all, but . . . uh, who knows.

1. 5'1 = you're short; 100 pounds = you're light, it won't be too hard to lift you off the ground by one arm ----> conclusion = your breast size is in proportion with the body, doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with it.

2. Guys don't really care about breasts that much, well, not unless he's planning to do some "adult stuffs" with her. We generally care about the face and weight (not . . . saying anything bad about chubby people there, I'm just stating a generalization).

3. Hey, c'mon, it's high school. And I believe that you can deal with peer pressure effectively. Just make sure that you do something because you wanted to, not because your peers wanted you to.

4. Genes affects your rate of maturity. Typically, Asian girls mature slower than American girls (and tend to be shorter, too).

5. Large breast means more tension in their upper extremities, which causes backaches in the long run. You are free from all the extra weight. You get to move around more freely.

6. Breast cancer is more common among larger breast women. Also, if you happen to have to go though a double mastectomy (surgical removal of both breasts, a common treatment for breast cancer), no one will know. (Well, except your husband since you two will be doing the you-know-what stuffs).

7. You are just 14. Give it some time. Have you ever watched the movie Sky High? Yep, exactly my point, maybe you're just late boomer =D

Hmm . . . feel kind of weird talking about breasts to a female. Usually this is guys' secret talk when there's no girl around, hahaha.

If you just started your period a little while ago, it could take a while for you to grow. Breast development doesn't end until around age 18 so you've still got plenty of time :) You definitely won't be flat forever.
