i just realized something about me, haa. i sometimes forget to eat for like a day or two, and then when i eat, like even when i'm full, i keep eating. and then don't go another day or whatever until i eat again. i know thats not the greatest thing in the world to do, but is that even a disorder? i'm not doing it on purpose. i just forget to eat or something.
& then we were learning about depression in health, and i had like 4 symptoms, but i think there kinda common. like i'm always really tired, and i sleep alott. & i don't do much. & i usually don't really know what day it is ever. & i'm usually really out of it. & i have mood swings, like i'm either really happy or sad & kinda just whatever.
is that bad? or is that normal? i'm 16? i've never really noticed it before. anyone get what i'm talking about ha?

NoCandy answered Thursday April 9 2009, 12:59 am: You should go to the doctor and describe exactly what is going on. Loss of appetite is a symptom of depression, but it is also a symptom of a lot of other things. So are being tired all the time and sleeping a lot. If you go to the doctor they will probably do some blood tests. Even if they don't find anything, ruling out anything really serious can be a relief.
In the mean time, you should try to make yourself eat some nutritious meals even if you don't feel like it at the time. Start by making sure to eat breakfast every day. Hopefully that will help you have more energy. Also, you might exercise a little bit (but not too much, especially since you say you haven't been eating much). Exercise can help you have more energy through the day. The third thing you can try is making sure you get enough sleep at night. Shoot for eight hours. Don't sleep too little or too much, and try to limit daytime naps. Try your best to get on a set schedule, waking up the same time every day, and going to bed at approximately the same time every day.
But first and foremost, go to the doctor, and do what the doctor says to do. If you don't trust what your doctor says, get a second opinion from another doctor. Talk to your parents and hopefully they'll be supportive in helping you with this. It's not completely uncommon for teenagers to have these problems, but they could be related to something serious. Best of luck to you, and I hope you find a way to feel better soon! [ NoCandy's advice column | Ask NoCandy A Question ]

Plus, as a teenager and high schooler, you are bound to be depressed at some point. It's completely normal. Serious, long drawn out depression that interferes with your life is not normal, however, and if it gets to that point you should definitely get help.
Now... as for the eating thing. When I am busy I forget to eat for long periods of time too. You, however, said you don't really do anything, so I take it you are not busy. An eating disorder is eating or not eating to the point of negatively affecting a persons mental and physical health, and consumes every part of a person's life. So, your situation does not fit the criteria of a disorder. It does sound like an irregularity though. I would call your doctor's office and see if they think it is any reason to worry. They will know more about if that is normal or not.
BrokenWings answered Wednesday April 8 2009, 4:47 am: Normal almost certainly. I've always been like that with my food since I was a baby. If you aren't hungry and you don't have low blood sugar and you aren't loosing weight then I think you're fine.
However, if you are tired all the time this could be because of low blood sugar, I would suggest you try to make an effort to eat something at meal times, even if you aren't hungry, or have some smoothie or something. This will keep your energy levels up.
I don't think you've got depression, your symptoms are most likely to be symptoms of being a teenager. I've been severely depressed, but even when I was healthy I never knew what day it was. Some people just don't have a working body clock!

but you might just be a hypochondriac.
