Pie

Question Posted Tuesday April 7 2009, 9:15 pm

I want to make a blackberry pie and I want to put a crumble on top instead of doing a lace top. But i'm not sure if it will make it too sweet or even taste good. Anyone ever tried to do this or ate it before, and if so did it turn out well?

I did a crumble top last year except I made a blueberry pie. It still tastes great, it just has a little different texture and is a little messier. Also, the crumble tends to flake off a little more, as opposed to the lace top which cuts nicer. In my opinion lace looks prettier too :-)
Extra tip: If you want to make your lace sweeter and have a more elegant touch, just take some sugar, mix it with a little bit of food coloring (i use blue because I made blueberry) and let dry. Then sprinkle it lightly on the top of the lace (before its cooked)
