Homemade shampoo?

Question Posted Sunday April 5 2009, 5:25 pm

I don't want to use store bought shampoos and conditioners anymore. I've tried so many in the past years, even some recommended by doctors & people from salons and they make my hair look worse. I don't have itchy scalp/dandruff. My hair just looks greasy.

What can I use every day to make my hair shiny and soft?

And is there something that I could do like once a week as well?

I don't want to use eggs. I was considering some tea but I'm not quite sure.

My friend has the same exact problem as you. she has dark brown hair, and it is contantly greasy and flat and dull. so she went to the doctors and hair salons, but nothing worked except... these remedies. I found it online for you, because I want to be specific :] ill link you the websites also, if you want other ideas, but this is what my friends guarentees...

1. mix a tablespoon of malt vinegar in a glass of water and add a pinch of salt. Then put two tablespoons on your scalp and massage it with your fingertips. Repeat this two times a week will help reduce the oil on your scalp.

2. A shampoo you can create yourself includes using some of your regular shampoo (try and use one as mild as possible), and simply add a teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. It is best to use of a cup of your normal shampoo and blend all the ingredients together. After you have blended it all, wash your hair with it and then rinse thoroughly.
All fresh recipes should be stored in the fridge to enhance their shelf life. Usually they last for around one week and you should use it every day.

oh yeah, and my friend says to most defiently NOT use egss. at all. what-so-ever. it doesn't help at all. it's liek one of those myths. or flukes. and trust me this girl knows her stuff, she has tried everything and those 2 methods work. she also said that if you decide not to wash your hair for a day, and it gets greasy [because you didn't have time to wash it] just put some baby powder in it and brish it through. it's a quick fix.
hope I helped, if you have any other questions, inbox me and i'll ask my friend :] good luck ! have fun and I hope this works [which i'm pretty sure it will, although everyone's hair reacts differently to different things] xxo

I use biolage hydrating shampoo & condition with biolage conditioner, & use a lancome hydrating masque (twice a week). Then, I use either perfect 10 leave in conditioner, biolage curl defining creme (even though I straighten my hair), or biosilk (tiny amount.) I switch things up every once in awhile.
A way to keep your hair from looking dry is to not blow dry/use heat. If you have to blow-dry, try doing it on the coolest setting possible.
If you need to use heat, use something like the CHI keratin mist to protect your hair from heat.
Also, one more thing. Stripping/clarifying shampoos are awful for your hair because they strip all of the essential oils from your scalp. You would do best to stay away from those.
I read somewhere that Herbal Essences Hello Hydration is good, too, but I never used it. It probably smells awesome, too.
Also, when you shampoo, apply lots of pressure to increase circulation to your scalp because a healthy scalp translates to healthy, shiny hair. :)
