high school sweethearts

Question Posted Sunday March 29 2009, 9:26 pm

Do you think it's really possible for a couple to last through high school and college and eventually get married? I always thought people who were married and were high school sweethearts was the cutest thing.

Also, when me and my boyfriend go to college we'll be about four hours away from each other. How hard is it to keep a relationship going in this type of situation? I don't know how I'll deal with a long term relationship. As it is we live 20 minutes away from each other and see each other every other day and if for some reason we can't get together I'll start missing him so much it hurts.

Yes, it is possible. My parents were high school sweethearts and now they've been married for almost 18 years.

As for the college thing, you just really need to put an effort into it. You need to commit (which I don't think you'll have a problem with, because as it is, it sounds like you really care for your boyfriend) to one another. You need to have an open and affective line of communication.

I'd sit down with your boyfriend and really talk about it before college starts. Don't bombard him, just say you've been thinking about it a lot and you want to know where he stands.

Best of luck! If you need any more help, my inbox is always open :)

ive had a boyfriend for 3 years now and im in highschool! i want this too. and the only way to make this last is to have trust and to be loyal towards one another. if you dont trust him, you will get really paranoid and same for him. just make sure that you wouldnt do things behind his back and dont lie to him. if he notices any of this, he might doubt that you guys will be able to last. do whatever you can to get him to realize he can trust you and that you guys can make it! and make sure you can trust him. in a situation if another guy tries to hit on you, do what you wouldnt want him to do! good luck

Yes I do think it's possible for highschool sweethearts to last. My aunt and uncle are highschool sweethearts and they're fine. There are ups and downs to every relationship but in te end you have to know that you love each other and you'll make it through.

I am sort of in a long distance relationship myself. I can only see my boyfriend on the weekends and sometimes a day during the week. It is hard but we've been together for 9 months and we're fine. There were times where I felt like ripping my hair out, but all I had to do was call him and everything would be fine. We stay on the phone for hours a day. If you don't have that kind of tie you can do a pen pal kind of thing so it kinda adds an excitement factor to missing him. You'll be able to read his thoughts and feeligs for you everyday or when ever he sends the letters. Or you two could write in journals everyday and ten when you do meet each other, exchange them and then you'll get to read that while you're waiting to see each other.

It is hard but if you love each truly, you'll get through it.
