My family has been telling me things about ghosts lately that relate to my house. No, they're not joking with me. And it's little things, not like they're TRYING to scare me (like my sister said she saw our door open and close on it's own once, while on level foundation). I believe in that sort of stuff. The problem is, ever since I was a kid, I've been VERY paranoid of that.
I'm a really creative person, and I can turn almost any situation into a very scary one, especially if I'm alone. It's usually really gruesome stuff, too. (Too many ghost shows as a kid, maybe? :P). For example, I'll just be sitting downstairs and imagine seeing a person walking down the steps (I'm not actually seeing things, just freaking myself out). Or like, imagining seeing someone be hanged. It sounds dumb, but stuff like that. I hate that I'm this paranoid, but I can really freak myself out.
What can I do to get over this? I used to use humor and writing to get it out, but it's not really working very well. Plus, this isn't my genre to write. I want to feel comfortable in my own houes. =/
16/F. Oh, and I believe in God if that helps at all?

It's ok to be curious. Maybe instead of blocking the images, you should look into true stories and scientific evidence of ghosts. Try to understand what they are, and that they don't need to be feared. Sometimes understanding something changes things. Ghosts would not be scary to people if people had never made scary stories about them. In our advanced society, we have the ability to understand things better then they did a century ago. I used to see these freaky figures and ghosts when I closed my eyes at night, but I just kept on putting different pictures in my head and eventually they went away. Also, you should talk to your family and tell them that you would really appreciate it if they did not talk about ghosts or scary things around you because it frightens you. Stop reading/watching horror books and films as well. Hope you can turn things around in your mind! [ person43's advice column | Ask person43 A Question ]
