I'm like 155 pounds and 5'5". And its hard to get motivation and the time to go out there and run. Cause I want to train for the sports I'm taking next year by becoming more agile and having more endurance. And what can I do to target the problem areas? (from stomach down to ankles). I'm getting a bit chubby on my stomach and my butt is huge! Its one of the things of being black (lol) but still.. what else can I do other than running to lose weight? Like can you give me a work out schedule for the week? cause I dont know how much in the week i should be working out. and what time is the best to work out, and how to eliminate cravings (its probably how i gained a lot of those extra pounds, ugh) and find time inbetween my busy life to do this stuff?
any extra tips on how to be healthier are good as well. I'm only 15 so i dont have a say on what my mom buys for food. like we dont even have a lot of snacks and we rarely ever eat out (like less than 10 times in a year do we either go to a restaurant or order food like pizza, chinese, etc. i love sushi and other japanese foods but its expensive and my mom doesn't really like that some is raw but its amazing) so sometimes i feel so.. sugar deprived. then i go on a binge and eat something "special" she buys like.. binging on hot cocoa powder and adding extra sugar to tea and stuff. its pathetic but idk.. like i feel that other people who have grown up with all this junk food in their house are used to it, so they dont get as excited as i do when we FINALLY have it. i hate that. i mean i love eating fruits and stuff (my mom buys plenty) and i dont exactly want her to buy junk food but how can i just stop the binging? like when im going shopping i tend to end up buying candies and stuff just cause of the cravings. and i even end up wasting my money on school lunch (I always get a sub, fries and chocolate milk when I do) because my mom doesnt buy the stuff they put in subs.. like those special cheeses and meats that my mom says isn't good for you cause they are processed. i know that but they just taste soo good and while i can make a sandwich at home (tuna, avocado, or pb&j usually) like the other is so appetizing and i make a snap decision and get it. and i end up eating the whole meal down to the last fry when other people.. some dont even finish their meals. i guess cause i've been brought up to fiinish the food on my plate and since its rare to get that food and its my own money i dont want it to be a waste. like it got to the point where i took money from my mom just to get lunch since i didnt have 2 bucks, and felt so guilty and didnt want to bloat like i do by eating too much of the school lunch that i got a pack of gum & a giant cheese pretzel at first. yeah i seriously need help.
I mean my calves are pretty muscular as are my arms too. I have no idea why I have arm muscles.. like people ask me if I exercise them when I dont.. I've just always had them.. as far back as I can remember having defined muscles was when i was 4 or 5 - why is that?
anyways, thanks ALOT for reading all of this, and by answering you can really help me in life. i want to be healthier and feel better about myself from not only losing the weight but by training for next year so that i can be even better than i was last year, and for putting an end to silly binges. Any other tips you have on the topic, PLEASE SHARE! Ones that have worked for you.. other people too. Once again, thanks! =]

Smartone answered Thursday March 12 2009, 1:48 pm: Exercise alone won't necessarily cause you to lose weight. Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you build muscles, they'll be heavier than the fat. You must exercise to get in shape, but, you can't eat back the calories you burn. One pound of fat equals 3500 calories so you must cut out 3500 calories (diet)to lose one pound. If you cut out 3500 a week, you will lose one pound a week. To lose two pounds a week you need to cut out 7000 calories a week. It's just a matter of arithmetic. You can burn those calories and restrict your intake.
My son recently lost 40 lbs. over 5 weeks. He did it by being very careful with what he eats (low fat, healthy foods, vegetables) and restricting the amounts he eats. Small portions, 6 times a day. The reson for eating 6 times a day is to stave off the hunger which tens to make us binge and binge on whatever catches our eye! If you're starving, you much less likely to resist the temptation to over eat and eat things that are guaranteed to undermine your diet.
1. 7am: 1/2 cup oatmeal, no sugar.
2. 10am: One egg.
3. 12pm: Can of tune, no mayo, no bread!
4. 2pm: large salad, no fattening dressings, one slice of whole wheat bread. (lemon juice)
5. 4pm: 4 oz. chicken and 4 oz. green vegetable.
6. 6pm: Another salad (smaller) with 1 egg.
optional: Very SMALL portion of dessert ( two small cookies, 1/4 cup ice cream, etc.
Don't let anyone tell you weight loss is easy. It's not. You will have hunger pangs because your body is used to a certain amount of food everyday and now you will be depriving it. You must stick to you regimen even when you reach plateaus and fight through them.
You can work your problem areas by targeting them with exercises. Go online and look up exercises for your specific problem areas and do them. They work. Keep in mind that no amount of exercise will get rid of the fat on those problem areas. For that you need weight loss. Once the fat is gone, you will see the muscles. The stomach is notorious for that! You can build your ab muscles pretty quickly because they are some of the largest and strongest muscles in your body, but if there is a layer of fat over them, you won't see the results (a six pack). That doesn't mean they're not there. Also, your problem areas will be the last areas that lose fat! Period. That's why they are your problem areas.
