In-text Citation - a brief mention in the text of your paper (usually at the end of a sentence) that leads the reader to the complete information about that reference. When using numbered footnotes or endnotes, as in Chicago Manual of Style (documentary-note / humanities style), this in-text citation is called a "note reference number"

In-text citation: An in-text citation is when you provide information about the source in the text of their paper. Often, in-text citations include a signal phrase which gives the author’s name and a parenthetical reference, which can include the author’s name and the page number.

EXAMPLE: blah blah blah, (Burke 3).
EXAMPLE: blah blah blah, (Halladay, 2001).
