wifi-dangerous?

okay so i got an itouch and i get free wifi with it except i dont have a wireless connection in my house so i was going to buy a router for it except my parents dont want it because they said people could pick up our wifi and steal like credit card numbers or private things from our computer and hack in is that true? and cant i just use it for my itouch and my wi console and not the computer itself? thanks!

As long as you set a wireless password and use WPA2, other people won't be able to use your WiFi. This is done in the router configuration; read the manual.

Some routers only support WEP wireless encryption. WEP is insecure. It takes only minutes to hack a WEP connection. Make sure you use WPA2. Also use a strong password of 8+ characters. If you don't do this, other people will be able to see everything you send over the wireless connection, including your credit card numbers and passwords.

I recommend the Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GL wireless router. Both support WPA2 and are easy to set up.

As far as I can find, they can't hack that stuff because all they can do is borrow your connection
with say their laptop but I'm no profetional you can check with a company who gives the service they are legally bound to tell you if it does
