I have side swept bangs and am sick of having to get them cut all the time. If I don't cut my hair it grows way too quickly and end up with bangs that flop down in my face and have absolutey no shape.
I need a change of hairstyle, I definately want bangs. How should I get them cut?
Here's a bit of info on me to help you:
- I have dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and a fair complexion.
- My face is a little squarish. (I think its fat looking)
- I have a wide nose which I'd like to hide.
- I have long hair (to my boobs).
- I have to wash my hair every second day of it looks like I dipped my bangs in a bucket of oil.
Any pictures would be fantastic. Thanks to everyone who contributes.
I cut my own bangs and cut them so they can cover the bump in my nose without going completely all over my face :) You sound like you have hair like me pretty much :) so, I'd suggest my hairstyle, or at least one the looks a tad like it, meaning:
keep your hair long and try not to tuck it behind your ears ever, since you have a wide face. Keeping your hair like that will make your face look longer and more slim :) and when you get bangs, be sure to tell the stylist (if you end up not doing them yourself) EXACTLY how long/short you want them! Stylist sometimes have a habit of going to short because they cut it right after they wash it when it's still wet. And when your hair dries, it's shorter because your hair is weighted down and looks longer when it's wet. So make sure you specify exactly what you want and don't be afraid to stop her if she's doing it wrong.
I wash my hair every other night. I wash it and then blowdry it to roughly the shape I want and then I sleep on it so it gains it's natural oils back while you sleep :) that way your hair won't look dry or washed out in the morning!
To avoid oily bangs, keep your face washed every morning and night and try not to touch your face/bangs, but, if you don't have time to take a quick shower and your bangs are oily, you can do a quick fix trick I use on the nights I fall asleep before I take a shower. Sprinkle a tad bit of baby powder on your brush (you can do it directly on your hair, but I recommend just on the brush because it will go all the way through and get every hair instead of just the top) then run it through your bangs and the baby powder will suck the oil right up for the time being :) Then I run my flat iron over them a bit to get whatever's left out so my bangs aren't white. You should probably experiment with this on a weekend day so if you mess up you don't have to go to school like that ;)

When you get your bangs cut, get side bangs but not ones that cover your whole forehead...if that makes sense. Make them a tad long so that you can part your hair on the side with your bangs.
It more of an extremely short layer with a side part. This way, you don't have to constantly cut them because it won't look bad or get all over your face when they grow out a little.
Use a clarifying shampoo or one that says :for oily hair". Also, make sure you're shampooing your scalp, more so than your actual hair. Your scalp is what produces the oil and is what you actually need to clean. And Don't put conditioner on your roots. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
