flexibility!

Question Posted Sunday January 25 2009, 8:26 pm

18/female
so i don't play any sports, havent in about 5 years. use to be in about four sports including gymnastics. i miss being flexible so much! i miss being able to do the splits. i was just wondering how i could become flexible again? like what are some stretches i could do that might let me able do the splits again. its hard for me because i dont push myself. when i was in gymnastic i had an instructor who would make me stay in a position for so long and they would push me to go farther and farther and now i have to put that on myself and i just stop right away. well i was just hoping someone could tell me how to become more flexible, positions, anything! thanks.

Hello, well I try to stay flexible no matter what so I know a couple of good stretches to get you back to doing splits in no time,The key to these stretches however is pushing yourself or just simply going alittle further each time, you will get nowhere by doing the same thing.
1.The straddle is the best position to me, sit on the floor with your legs open as far as they can go and push yourself down to the middle, the idea us to be able to push yourself to the ground and hold that position, dont worry that will take time,it took time for me.
2.Stay in the straddle position and go to eaither the left or the right of your leg,you try to reach your ankle and grab hold of it,stay in that postion for atleast 10 seconds on wither side.
3.A good one but a hard one, push your butt up against a wall with your legs open against the walla s if you were in a straddle but up against the wall and hold yourself up by placing your hands on the ground...spread your legs as far as possible and try to get your chest and or face against the wall,it is challenging but you will get there.
3.Stand up and keep your legs open but not too far,you wont get the stretch, just try to place your palms on the ground and try to get your hands in between your legs while on the ground its better, also you can go down to either side of your leg, grasp your ankle and try to press your chest to your leg it is a great stretch
4.Also just sitting in the split that you can do,however far down it is for 30seconds a day will make them lower, left, right,or middle splits are fine.
5.Toe touches and needles are good too but i dont know if you would be interested in doing those
I hope this was helpful..the best of luck to you,if you have any further questions just ssend me a private message and I wll answer anythiung specifically:)
SINCERLY,DIAMOND:)
