At four years old many children are very active yet alone focused on many other things. They are children and they are young. I do not know the child but it could also be possible that the child has ADD? ADHD? Children tend to not focus on things that do not interest them. You could try teaching him in a way that would be fun for him/her. You could also try tutoring one on one with the child.
