Not everyone who goes into acting needs to be home-schooled. Many child actors have tutors on set and spend only three hours a day with school work and just a few more on set.

Quite often the production likes for the kids to attend a normal school part of the day and arrive on set. When not filming kids are attending school just like you are. How do I know this? I've read about it and know several TV actors. I also work on occasion as an extra in TV and film. Family members have also worked as assistants to child/toddler/infant actors.

How do you get into acting? You need not wait until junior or senior year. Look around you and keep your ears open about community theatre groups in your area or youth theatre groups and join them.

A principal agent won't sign you because you lack professional credits. Having said that an agent who represents only kids and teens would. The best way to figure out if you really want to be in this business is to hire what they call a Background Talent Agent.

They'll put you in crowd shots in movies and TV. Then you'll see if you can handle 18 hour shoots that often have you there at 6 a.m for an 8 a.m. start. Musicals are brutal to film such as Hairspray. Often you are doing 18-20 hour days.

Also take improvisation classes or any programs geared towards young people when it comes to drama. I don't know if you are in Toronto, Chicago, Detroit or wherever but the Second City Training Center is the best for this and no I don't work or shill for them. I know based on the amount of top actors that have come out of that place from John Candy to Dan Aykroyd. www.secondcity.com

Your school's drama program will help you but won't be enough of a foundation to leap into industry. Get yourself an agent but not just any agent. Be sure they are listed on ACTRA or SAGs lists of reputable agents so you avoid heartbreak and scams.
