convincing my parents to send me to a catholic high school
Question Posted Tuesday December 16 2008, 5:27 pm
i just got my acceptance letter to a catholic school today, and i got accepted. problem is i didn't get a scholarship. not even a $1500 one.
i got a 572 on my HSPT entrace exam
and i get straight A's.
however, i got a's & b's last year.
the high school costs $9,960.
my parents said if i get at least $3000 scholarship there, i could get in.
so how do i convince them to send me there?
the town high school thats my only choice now SUCKS but my parents think that if i do well there i could still be good in college
i REALLLLY want to go to this school
so please give me some convincing things i should tell them and dont criticize me telling me how my parents are right.
They're hoping you can get a scholarship to get in for the $3,000. That's your only ticket right now. Even if you did receive one it would only be for the year then you're in this rut again.
What I would do is call the school explain you want to be there more than anything. As them for possible solutions to help you out financially. I really can't even if it's a private school fathom that they don't have bursaries or financial aid.
If it's right for you to be there God will see to it. However, you should look at Montessori and other private schools just to see if you aren't overlooking what should be your rightful place. Maybe not being able to go might open up another opportunity even better.
You don't have to go to the local high school and it may not suck like you thought. There's options other than there or this school you are set on. They'd gladly admit someone like you with your excellent record.
You can't convince anyone to do anything for you or send you to a certain school. It's always up to them. Right now they've told you the only answer they have it can't be done with their finances.
Even if they did send you how would you feel about them having to sacrifice a lot in order to do it? That's what it's really about not the school, not you, not your marks--it's family finances and no way to pay for this.
You're going to have to settle for the fact that they may not pull this off for you but that there's other options and schools that may be in your price range as equally as good. What you want sometimes is not what you need or your real place. Start investigating all options and if you can get financial aid by meeting with the school admin. But, just explain to them how much it matters. Tell them where you want to go in life and how this school can help you. It might be more convinsing if you have a set plan for the future and you prove that without this school your future won't be possible. Just beg and plead. We don't know your parents so we won't know what will work, so i'm just giving you suggestions and if you don't jthink that they'll work then sorry!
