if you know strokes, practice those a lot, especially in freestyle because that's probably what you will compete in. if you don't just keep up the cardio (like running) and try to practice something in the pool. it's my first year on the swim team too, and i can tell you if you just don't cheat at practice, go every day and make an attempt to learn all the strokes, you'll be fine. you'll compete against people about your level and you pretty much just need to prepare for some long hours in the pool. my biggest piece of advice is if you are not used to diving at all, practice jumping off the block. it may be the biggest challenge. good luck. :)

It wouldn't hurt to practice laps in the pool. You should have days where you're just practiving you strokes and stuff. And you should have days where someome is timing and you & you're just working on time. Running, is good. Perhaps doing some weights for your arms, so they can become stronger.
