I got a baby guinea pig over the past weekend and she's acting strange and i don't know if it's normal, as in Should I take her to the vet?
She sneezes
she has "boogers" in her eyes ( gross i know)
she won't eat guinea pig food just hay and veggies
she barley drinks water ever
she shakes and grunts 24/7
A healthy animal will always have clear, clean eyes. They will never have seepage from the nose or "sneeze" a lot. Rejecting food is a VERY, VERY big sign that the animal is having problems processing that even. If the animal normally does not shake then shaking is cause for alarm.
Please, pack her safely in a container and take her to the vet. Now. As soon as you read this.
I lost a very dear pet to me once because I took too long to get her the help she needed. She looked completely fine one hour and the next she was ill, within a few hours she had passed on. Rodents have very, very sensitive respiratory systems so they can catch colds and various airborne illnesses easily. Even some wood chippings can end up causing lung infections in rodents. They are simply not as hearty as one would think.
The shaking COULD be nervousness of a new home.
Not eating COULD be nervousness of a home.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it though. The eyes don't sound good. The not drinking water is too risky for me. Just be on the safe side and have her checked out.
Please, take her to the animal hospital now before you have to watch her suffer. Even if you cannot afford the vet bills most will let you pay monthly until the cost is paid off.
P.S. When purchasing a pet always look at the color of the skin to make sure it's healthy, listen to them breathe to make sure there isn't any weird noises in their chests, and look at their eyes to make sure they are CLEAR and CLEAN. After purchasing a pet you should ALWAYS make a small check-up vet appointment to make sure the new pet is healthy and in good condition so that any illness can be caught immediately (and if they are sick you'll know the quarantine the pet from the rest of the animals in the home as to not spread the illness).
