hi i was just wondering..are laws that make hate speech illegal, legitimate in a democracy? like...doesnt that go against freedon of speech? thoughts?

Well there's a fine line between offending someone and actually being hateful/threatening.

Like, you could say that you hated everyone who was Jewish. A lot of people would hate you but you're just speaking your mind.

Now, if you walked into a public place and declared that you were going to kill everyone who was Jewish, THAT would be hateful and violating the rights of others to be safe/unthreatened.

The amendment states that an individual has the right of freedom of speech, but there are also more laws too this. But Once becomes a "hate speech" there can be legal action taken.
I believe everyone has the freedom to speak publicly about what they feel or believe, however i dont believe in bashing people because of race, gender, looks etc. Techincally it does go against the amendment. but this subject depends on what you think is right and wrong. and what you're beliefs are.

Our freedom of speech only applies if our speech is not hurting anyone. If someone is offended, the freedom of speech kind of doesn't exist, which I think sucks because uhm "REALITY!" Lol.
