cutting

Question Posted Monday November 3 2008, 4:23 pm

Hi, I'm hoping you can help me. & Not tell me to go talk to my school couslar or a professinal, my friends, or even my family. I won't do it.

I use to cut in 7th & 8th grade. (Wrists) I recently (about 5 months ago) cut on my leg because I couldn't take it. I told myself it's the last time I'd do it.

Well, I can't take it any longer. We're reading a book in English 2 where this kid cuts himself because of his life, Wanna know what I did when I had to read it? I cried. & I didn't read the rest.

I don't know who I can talk to without them telling my parents, or me going on 24/7 sucidide watch. I'm not that bad. I wanna talk to my favorite teacher, but I CAN'T.

What can I do to make myself not cut myself? I hate writing, running doesn't take my mind off anything, and I feel like my life is going down the drain. I never use to drink, I'm a huge drinker now, I think about smoking to cure my problems almost daily. & I even skip school now. Please, what do I do before I screw my life up?

I'll rate 5 if you answer asap, please.

I'm going to let you know that smoking, drinking, cutting, and skipping school aren't going to help you recover. They may help you feel better for the moment that their effect is upon you. But, they're only bandaids. Every bandaid comes off eventually. Every cigarette incinerates into nothing but lung cancer. Every beer disappears as you drink it & every drunken night ends with a morning hangover. Every drink brings you closer to liver disease. Skipping school will only make the tests harder.
You'll just have more to worry about.
In order to keep yourself from cutting yourself, you'll have to build up your self-esteem.
Everyone has something to be happy about.
You're here to type your story on this site, so that means that you can still fog a mirror...you're alive, and that's a blessing that some unfortunate people only wish they could've had.
You don't need to talk to your friends, family, or teachers about this, but it would be wise...just be careful what you say to certain people...a psych ward may cause anxiety in addition to your depression.

Really take my advice because this is important...think positive. There are many ways to replace negative sayings with less-negative sayings.
For example:
NOT "this sucks."
BUT "well, this could be better."

The fact that you asked for advice on this site is a step in the right direction & it's easier because people like me aren't close to your situation.

I think rather than dwelling on the reasons TO cut yourself, smoke, drink, or skip, you should think of the reasons NOT TO do those things.
Sometimes, it's really hard to see the good things in your life when the bad things are the ones that are contstantly in your face & in the spotlight of your mind.

You're someone worth knowing, befriending, loving, and respecting- as everyone is. When you do these self-destructive things, you hide the goodness in you that people want to see...and that you want to see.
Continuing these harmful habits will only cause more problems than anyone can handle.
So, before you decide to cause more problems when trying to fix the pre-existing problems the wrong way, fix whatever is bothering you right away...the right way. Once that's done, you'll see that you're worth more than a hospital patient with many problems like depression, lung cancer, liver disease, and scars from cutting.
You don't deserve this.
You can even question yourself in your head. Introspecting for long periods of time will bring solutions that you'd have never thought of without taking time to really think about everything...the key to not digging yourself into a deeper rut of depression is thinking positive.

If you don't want to talk to anyone, talk to me, or anyone on this site just so that you know someone's listening...or reading.

First of all...
thats something im struggling with right now, ive gone to numberous counselers and they've all said the same thing, do something else replace it. Ive tried rinning writing singing dancing almost everything in the book. Ive not replaced it with drinking or smoking only becuase i know that i have a problem now and i dont want another one. Its so hard to stop. last year i stopped for 4 months but then i slipped up and did it agin. Right now I am on a 3 1/2 month streak, and still struggling. All i can tell you is look to the people around you. surround yourself with people that love and care about you. try not to be alone when you have the urge to cut, call your friends cry to them let them be your shoulder to cry on. I know it almost seems impossible and that sometimes its like you just cant stop or live without it, but like when you want to the most think of it like your not only hurting yourself, your hurting the people you love the most. Theres no real cure for cutting, all you can do is TRY and replace it, like i know its getting tough but this is the time that matters the most. try and replace it, find your passion. replace it with fun. thats the only way you will overcome it.
I hope i helped maybe just a little.
if you want to talk ANYTIME, feel free.

Do you have a best friend to confide in or maybe even a boyfriend? I guess not, because you would've done so by now right?

Well let's see, I wouldn't want to go on suicidal watch or talk to my counselor either if I were you because they would just put your "cutting" business out there in public. That favorite teacher of yours though is a VERY good idea. You should really try and confide in that person and ask them to help you out. I would help you personally except for all I know I'm probably on the other side of the universe right now, but anyone whom you feel you can tell, you must! If you don't want to continue living your life the way you are now, "cutting" and all, than your best option right now is tell that teacher of yours.

If you need more help with this, or if you need more advice from me, please!
