So, you're not an adult yet? You might have to look harder, but with the right support from parents (and there's always that parental waiver form), there are numerous church groups that travel overseas to build schools and do other good works. My niece traveled with her church (so do a search "volunteer church groups africa" (or wherever you want to go) and write to the group. Ask if there is an age minimum.
From your home you can start by contacting people over the internet (with parental supervision, of course). My web site www.BuildingInternationalBridges.org, has a list of procedures that you can follow to begin teaching English over the Internet, even via SKYPE or msn messenger or Yahoo messenger. If you need more suggestions, write to me at roadloversguy@gmail.com. Your spirit is in the right place -- we need more open-minded teens like you to prepare to be open-minded adults. It's a bit pricey because it's not all community service, it's part adventure/touring. And you're not exactly "roughing it," considering you stay in hotels! :) Let me know if you plan on doing it!!

Not only because you've nearly just hit your teen years, but because your too young to go to another country and do foreign volunteer work yet. I do find it very generous of you to want to help citizens in Africa. But the only way your getting their at the age of 14, is is you decide to buy plane tickets their during the summer and go with a supervisor. OR waiting until you get into high school so you can volunteer directly from their and they'll most likely give you brochures or what-not on how your going to get their. The last thing you can do is go into PeaceCore and hopefully get transferred to Africa. But I believe you "must" be an adult for that. Sorry, I don't believe there is anyway your getting into Africa for volunteer work, unless at the end of the school year you travel their on your own time with a guardian.
