When should bedtime be for a 10 year old's Halloween sleepover?

Question Posted Saturday September 27 2008, 3:16 pm

My little sister is going to having a sleepover Halloween party next month. She will be having some of her best friends over to spend the night, probably a total of 10 other girls her age. They will be having all sorts of party treats, including games, costumes, junk foods, and movies (the normal ones though like Mean Girls, High School Musical, Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers).

My little sister is only 10 years old, and recently turned 10 at that. My mom is trying to decide on a good bedtime for her and her best friends. She knows they'll want to stay up late for Halloween, plus they will be having a sleepover party, so she isn't sure what time is really appropriate to call it lights out.

So, I am wondering what other people thing about a 10 year old's bedtime during a Halloween slumber party. What time would you suggest my little sister and her best friends should be tucked in bed?

Well personally I think it should be based around what their parents think, like what time they plan to pick them up and everything...And honestly, when i was that age, and it was lights out time we stayed up all night anyway. I dont really see a problem with letting them stay up one night until they decide to go to sleep. the lack of sleep won't affect their health over one night, they most likely dont have to do anything functional the next day, like school.

oh and i have a suggestion to make, instead of those normal movies, have them watch halloween movies, like the ones for kids, here are a few that i could think of

hocus pocus
casper meets wendy (or any casper movie really)
the halloweentown movies (i believe there are 3 of them)

Wow 9.30 or 10... can't say I am on the same page there. Since its not a school night it should be ok to let them stay up late. I remember when I was a child about that age, during the holidays I could play pretty late.

I don't know, maybe I am totally off here, but I would let them stay up til midnight it being Halloween and all. Its just one night, can't really see why it should be a problem.

Anyhow those are my 2 cents :)

Good luck.

You can come up with whatever bedtime you want but can't enforce it. It's a party and they'll be excited and wired on candy and soda all evening. Bedtime becomes a case of when these girl's systems decide to make them crash.

Having said that I would think a 9:30 or 10 p.m. bedtime is something to strive for. Aside from that I recommend backing off and seeing what happens as they'll eventually fall asleep when they become too tired.
