living in the wrong time

Question Posted Tuesday September 9 2008, 8:27 pm

ever since i can remember i've felt like i'm living in the wrong time..like i feel like i shoud live in the 80's or 70's. i am obsessed with everything from back in those times and always wish so hard that i could live then instead of now. i feel like back then everything was much easier and relaxed and there wasn't as many world problems and stuff as there is now. all of my favorite movies, music, and actors are from back then but then it sucks becuase the actors are older now so it's weird since i'm just a teen..i just feel like iwas meant to live back then. sometimes i even get depressed about this and people ask me what would make you happy? and really what would make me happy is living in the 70's or 80's but i know that's impossible now. it just sucks because i totally hate this time era. i feel like techonology ruins everything and lets people know things they aren't meant to know, and that's why everyone fights so much. i just feel like all this technology is unnatural, and i feel lke in the 70's or 80's it was at the perfect balance. in my dream world i would be a child in the 70's and a teen in the 80's...i would be so happy. because i feel like techonology and the new world now ruins everything. can anyone help me? i just want to feel better about the time i'm living.and has this happened to anyone else? or do i just have problems?what can i do to feel better about the time i live in! i just love the 80's and 70's so muchh.

It's not completely impossible to live in a previous decade.

Check out these ladies:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Turn your life into 1988 at home. Dress in 80s clothes. Use a trapper-keeper!

Just live your life like you would in the 80s, no matter what people think. No one would really be able to stop you from living an 80s life.

The ladies in the link I posted were able to turn their lifestyles into that of the 50's, 40's, and 30's even. Hopefully that will inspire you to turn your life totally wicked and plaster Wham! and New Kids posters on your wall.

Cheers,
stargirl

You should be yourself, no matter what "era" you feel you should live in. A certain time period of the world is irrelevant to what you want to be now. You can still be accepted today if you want to dress in retro styles. You don't have to accept technology for what it is or have to care about the problems of others, its all a matter of choice. If people choose not to accept you for who you are, they are simply not accepting there past and how things slowly came to be as well as you profound affinity for the 80's and 70's. Thankfully there are people who won't care that you like the eras and may even like the fact you enjoy them. You can only be you, and nothing should change that.

And not trying to be a bearer of bad news or contradiction to what you like, but the 80's and 70's weren't all that great. Sure all kinds of things were great and nearly everything was laid back. But in the 70's countless wars were being fought and economy was dropping steadily. The entire world was practically on collapse. And in the 80's everything did get better, however, the US was always in fear of being Nuked by the USSR and many things else went wrong. In all actuality, its better to enjoy that era now, where it can be accepted anyways and not have as many problems that those times did, than to have to deal with all the problems of those times. Because back in the day, things were much harder than they were today.

I still like the fact you want to be different and like things from the past. You should still enjoy what you like, but still accept today for what it is. You can live and act like your in the eras of the past, and still use the tech and knowledge of today to your benefit. You never know, you might start a new trend...

I think the 60's would have been a cool time to live in. However, one can't go back in time, and its unhealthy to live in the past.

Though there wasn't the technology back then that we have at our fingertips now, things weren't all peachy keen back then.

Disasters:

* Mount St. Helens erupted in Washington, U.S. on May 18 1980, killing 57 people.

* The 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1989 World Series, gaining worldwide attention. Sixty-five people were killed and thousands injured, with major structural damage on freeways and buildings and broken gas-line fires in San Francisco, California. The cost of the damage totaled $13 billion (1989 USD).

* The US Drought of 1988 decimated the US with many parts of the country becoming victim. This was the worst drought to hit the United States in many years. The US Drought of 1988 caused $60 billion in damage (between $80 billion and $120 billion for 2008 USD). The heat waves represented alongside stole 4800 to 17000 thousand lives in the Unites States.

* Hurricane Allen (1980), Hurricane Alicia (1983), Hurricane Gilbert (1988), Hurricane Joan (1988), and Hurricane Hugo (1989)

* Other natural disasters: The 1982–1983 El Nino brought destructive weather to most of the world; the 1985 Mexico earthquake registered 8.1 on the Richter scale and devastated Mexico City and other areas throughout central Mexico; the 1985 Nevado del Ruiz lahar in Colombia; the 1986 Lake Nyos limnic eruption in Cameroon; and the 1988 Armenian earthquake, which rocked the Caucasus region of the USSR.

Non-natural disasters

In 1984 the Bhopal disaster resulted from a toxic MIC gas leak at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, killing 3,000 immediately and ultimately claiming 15,000-20,000 lives.

In 1986 the Chernobyl disaster, a large-scale nuclear meltdown in the Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union, spread a large amount of radioactive material across Europe, killing 47 people, dooming countless others to future radiation-related cancer, and causing the displacement of 300,000 people.

In 1986, the Challenger disaster, the NASA Space shuttle Challenger explodes after takeoff, killing all of the crew on board. This is the first disaster involving the destruction of a NASA space shuttle.

In 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Alaska. Although not among the largest oil spills, its remote and sensitive location made it one of the most devastating ecological disasters ever.

That kind of stuff is best left in the past where it belongs. Wouldn't you agree?

Best thing to do is let it go. If you feel technology ruins people, then be above that by not letting it ruin you.
Remember that the 70's and 80's had it's positives, but it also had it's share of negative.

Just like the 60's.
