Family interfering with choosing a college I'm a 19 year old female who will be transfering to a 4 year college next fall, meaning I will be applying for a transfer this october. I currently live with my parents near S.F. in California and have been planning for at least 4 months to transfer to San Bernardino State in Southern Cal. My parents have been conservative and overprotective since the day I was born and recently decided they are not allowing me to go 700 miles away from home for school. Since making my decision I have had my heart set on it and now don't know what to do. Should I just apply anyways and hope they change their minds? If I get accepted should I just go anyways? Or should I just choose another college that is close enough for my parents to bear with?

I think you apply to all colleges that
YOU want to go to.
At 19 some of those decisions that have to
do with your life should be yours to make.
It can be hard for some parents to let go
and realize their child has grown up! They
would miss you if you went far from home.
In the long run though, I think it would
actually be good for all of you.
So apply to the colleges of your choice.
Then go to work trying to make them
understand that while you respect and
value their opinions, this is one that
YOU need to make for yourself. :) ]
