I am hard of hearing, and whenever I get an ear infection my biggest fear is it's going to be that ear infection that might damange my hearing even more. Is that even possible? I mean can it damange my hearing more? Seriously the though freaks me out. I've had a double ear infection for almost a week and my ears still haven't popped :(

GabrielleD answered Monday September 8 2008, 3:47 pm: Yes, I'm sorry to say that ear infections can scar the tympanic membrane which is what allows the bones in your inner ear to ear sound. However I personally have had more than 50 ear infections and have scarring on my tympanic membrane with no significant loss of hearing. Further the solution my doctor gave me and has worked very well, no infections in 7 years is this. Lie on your side and pour 3% hydrogen peroxide into your ear canal. You should hear fuzzing and crackling and possibly slight itching. flush the ear over and over with the peroxide until the fizzing doesn't happen anymore and then repeat on the other side.
