temps

Question Posted Wednesday September 3 2008, 9:04 pm

Hey.
So I'm turning 15 and a half sept. 23rd. and I would really like to get my temps. My mom has no problem with it, but my dad does. He says I should'nt get them until I'm 16, because thats when he got his. Well I want to get a part-time job next summer, and i dont see why i cant start driving, like practicing! I'll have to wait like 6 months anyway to get my liscense and i need like 50 hours. And I've driven before and I'm ok with it. How do I convince my dad to let me get my temps? Please help!
thanks!
15/f/usa/ohio

A good point to make to your dad is the more practice you get driving, the better driver you will become and the safer you will be. I have a friend who didnt drive much before she took her drivers ed course and she was and still is a TERRIBLE drive haha. Practice is very important. The more experience the better.

First things first. Let your dad know that you would like to get a job next summer and you would like to be able to drive to your job. Tell him that you want to be more responsible and independent. Make it known that if he lets you get your temps, you can get your driving time in, get your license, and then get a job. By having a job, you would make your own money and wouldn't have to ask your parents for money. Parents really like to hear that one! If he still doesn't want to reconsider his decision, talk to your mom about it. Ask her to talk to your dad about it. If he STILL will not go for it, start by showing your more responsible. Do a few chores around the house. Get good grades. That sort of thing. Parents do not like to see their babies out driving by theirselves because driving is such a dangerous thing these days. If you show him you can be responsible then he'll figure you'd be responsible enough to drive. Good luck!
