male beta

my bf got me a male beta fish and i fed it the sample food and he didnt eat it so i bought food for him and he barely eats why doesnt he eat does he need a friend (girl or guy) and this is my first pet ever and i dont want him to die so please help.

They only eat around every two days, and do not put two beta fish in one tank, no matter what breed they will kill each other unless its mating season. Pretty sad, but just put some rocks, bamboo, and little decorations for shelter in his tank and it should do good.
