recycle bin gone I don't know how it happened but I just discovered today that it wasn't on my desktop anymore and I was sure that it was there before. How can I get it back and do you know how that might have happened in the first place?

Theymos has it covered, as usual. However, if you don't feel comfortable fiddling around in the regestry, go ahead and skip straight to the workaround. For all intents and purposes, it restores your recycle bin icon will be back. ]
go to the find file thingy on the start bar and type recycle bin ]
hey trying searching your computer for recycle bin. the icon may have gotten deleted, but the actual recycle bin is still somewhere on your computer.
go to start, search and type in "recycle bin." that should do it :)
you or someone who uses your computer may have selected the icon and accidentally hit the "delete" button. it's no biggie though! ]

Try method 1. If {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} doesn't already exist in the registry, then use method 2 instead. Don't attempt method 3, go straight to the workaround if method 1 or 2 doesn't work.

Even though it's difficult to remove the recycle bin, this is a common problem. Advicenators gets at least one of these questions a month. It's probably just a quirk with Windows. ]
