You are allowed your normal clothes, but nothing with strings. They will cut them if you want them. You are not allowed belts or antyhing like that.
No spirals, pens, pencils in the room.
No cells phone or any type of electronics. They will go over what you can and cannot have and the rules before you are admitted.
There is a lot of group therapy. A lot of talking with others and the counselors. About what happened, why you did, how are feeling, what's going on with your life that made you decide to kill yourself, etc. You can also talk one-on-one with the counselors. The counselors are there to help. Talk to them.
LiLMAMAx answered Sunday August 24 2008, 3:16 pm: I was admitted into one for depression, bi-polar, OCD, and social anxiety. It's a terrible place to go, but it does help you a lot. It's not meant to be fun. It's a hospital. Here's what mine was like.
You were allowed to wear your normal clothes, but only jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and stuff like that. If your clothes has strings of any kind in them, they will cut them out.
You're not allowed to have hardly anything but clothes in your room. No pens & paper or anything like that.
Wake up at 7:15, line up for breakfast at 7:45. Go to the cafeteria and eat. Go back to your room for "quiet time" which means you clean it & make your bed. The nurses come in and search your room for anything in it that isn't suppose to be there.
The rest of the day is mostly therapy and group therapy. They ask you how your feeling, why your in there, what do you want to do to change. Your doctor will talk to you a couple times a day.
If you have good behavior, you get more activites.
It's not bad, but once again it's just to help you, not so you can have fun.

Okay. My mom went to a psych ward for being OCD and bipolar back when they didnt know what it was. I dont really know what its going to be like, Im just fifteen.
But back then, they had all of the different kinds of patients mixed together. One time there was a lady who invited her to have tea. She sat down, poured my mother some tea, asked her if shed like cream and sugar. Only..there was no tea. Or cream. Or sugar. OR a tea set at all.
And then there was Tom. Tom said he couldnt take his medicine because he was dead. "Tom, come take your medication.""I cant. Im dead.""Tom, come on now!""I cant. Im dead!""Tom, I dont care if youre dead or not! Come take your meds!!" Poor Tom.
I just thought those might give you a laugh. And I wish you the best :] [ xxDearLee's advice column | Ask xxDearLee A Question ]
