As a linguistics minor I would say that what happens when people say the word disgusting is this...Consonant Cluster Reduction. Which basically means that there is two consonants which is naturally hard to pronounce both! Therefore, when we speak the word we accent either one of the consonants to make it easier to say. It is much harder to truly say dis-gus-ting. You really can't say it fast if you try to accent the G. I say discusting. There is nothing wrong with that either. On a side not, it might not be consonant cluster reduction it might be called something else...in which my mind is evading the right answer. Either way, it is natural to say it either way. It is not more correct to pronounce it as DisGustIng. :D

I say disGusting. Now that I think about it, it does sound like some people say disCusting. To me, it's kind of a mix of the G and C sound. Not just a strong G and not just a strong C if that makes sense. It may be a regional thing; I'm a Southern kid.

If you say it fast, nobody can tell.

It's definitely disGusting, because although people say it fast, and it may sound like "disCusting", usually it's not.

But it's supposed to be disGusting.

According to Dictionary.com the proper pronunciation is dis-guhs-ting OR di-skuhs-ting.

Both are officially acceptable (I would, however, lean toward the former simply because it reflects the spelling).
