Smelly yellow discharge?

Question Posted Monday August 18 2008, 4:20 pm

My birthday was a couple days ago and i decided to spend it with a guy i really liked. Things got a little carried away and we ended up having unprotected sex two days after my period stopped. This isn't the first guy i've been with. but now i have yellow, smelly discharge on my underware. There's no burning, reddness, or itchness so i don't think it's an infection. Is this a sign of pregnancy? Or is it normal?

Thankyou for your question.

Whilst discharge can vary from a clear/white to a slightly yellow colour, it's not normal for it to smell. Just because you don't have any other symptoms as of yet doesn't mean it's not an infection.
Keep a close eye on it and if you're not seeing any improvements within a few days, consult your doctor to pinpoint what is wrong, as there are many reasons. Personally, I just think it's a change in your cycle, because discharge constantly varies, but if your symptoms get worse, don't leave it untreated.
Although you've had unprotected sex, it will be way too soon to notice any pregnancy symptoms and a yellow smelly discharge isn't a symptom of pregnancy anyway, so you'll just have to wait for your next period to see if you're pregnant I'm afraid.

To conclude:
*Give it a few days to see if it goes back to normal. If not, ask your doc. If you get more symptoms, it's most probably an infection that needs treatment.
*You won't be able to tell if you are pregnant yet, so wait to see if you skip your next period.
