got a camera? go take some pictures around campus, friends, flowers, trees, whatever. then on your computer you can use almost any simple photo editing program to change them to black and white. then get a wide ribbon. whatever color you want and just use some push pins to put it on your wall and then you can use colorful clothes pins to hang your pictures on it. you could also type up some lyrics from one of your favorite songs and put it on some nice stationary and put it on the ribbon. i've seen this in a million magazines and it looks really cute.

i have a very similar style to you. the girly girl who loves black and artsy things and the beach. i hope you like the idea!

Because of your artsy talents, I would suggest creating some of your best art to put on the walls. Here are some on-the-wall ideas.
-Paintings with the colors for your room
-Black and white photography in frames. ( pictures of beaches, the outdoors, and animals )
-Framed poetry
And since your room is small, fill it with a small couch, shelves (floor shelves or on the walls), small tables and work spaces.

Decorating a brand new space is very fun and it brings out your creative and artsy side it should show the real you. Make your room so that when a friend walks in they say, " This room is so you." And that is what it is supposed to be, just like you. Good Luck and have fun!

I definitely agree with heybbylovee in that lighting is a key factor.
Also, you colud buy a tapestry for your walls since you can't paint them.
urbanoutfitters.com has a lot of sheets that double as such. and lots of other odds and ends.

^ There's a link to some you can look through, good luck!

hey

first off, definitely definitely start with posters and photographs since you said you like art. you can also try cute curtains and lighting. lighting can actually make or break a room. keep it bright and cutesy. pbteen has a lot of good lighting, but really anything nearby. the key is definitely lighting, though.

you can also try buying a cute bright rug to go on the floor. the second most important element is color. although you can't paint the walls, you can, as i said, put posters up, buy curtains, and buy a rug. most importantly, buy good bright lighting. maybe one desk lamp and a floor lamp should do it for you.
