Emancipation

Question Posted Wednesday August 6 2008, 11:11 pm

I really need help on getting information about how to go about getting emancipated in New Hampshire, I just moved from Massachusetts and was going to do it there but I moved and have no information about it here. I've tried to look it up online but nothing is clear to as how to exactly go about it, or who I could possibly contact to get information about it or where to go.

I was kicked out of my house at 14, my mother left me at 7, and my dad kicked me out two years ago. He's a drug addict and I've been moving in and out of friend's houses since I moved out. I am 16 years old now and the guardian that I live with is no help with getting the stuff I need together, (signing up for school, a job, getting a car, opening a bank acount, etc.) If you can give me any advice on emancipation in NH please let me know.

There is no provision under NH law for emancipation of minors. Check with legal aid or look in the phone book or call the bar association for NH and ask their advice. Here is the number for the people that should be able to help you;

The Legal Advice and Referral
Center (“LARC”) to complete an intake
at 1-800-639-5290.

This is for NH only. The website for the NH bar is below and it may help you some.

A quick google search seems to say that New Hampshire doesn't have an emancipation law for a minor...

This link seems to be pretty helpful:
