Once fertilization occurs, the egg remains in the fallopian tube for about 3 days. It will then enter the uterus where it gets very close to the lining of the uterus and begins to implant itself. This is usually a very gentle process. Some women do have slight bleeding at the time of their missed period, but that is after implantation.
There is usually no kind of cramping or physical signs that implantation has actually taken place actually. Internal temperature may give you a clue as to whether you are pregnant or not, but there are really not reliable physical signs that we are aware of at this time.
Implantation bleeding may occur shortly after the egg has settled into place. There will be very light spotting and won't last more than a day. It's usually a brownish color but sometimes can be red. Approximately one in four pregnant women will have some bleeding early in pregnancy.
An ectopic pregnancy can also cause early bleeding, cramping, and discomfort. This is when implantation occurs somewhere other than the uterus (usually the fallopian tube), and is a very dangerous situation.
You must remember that bleeding during pregnancy, regardless of how slight, is never considered normal.
Remember that sperm can live in a body for days (there is even a few occurrences of finding live sperm in women TWO WEEKS after they engaged in sexual intercourse). This means that you won't know exactly when your egg was fertilized and when it would be implanted.
Breast tenderness seems to vary from woman to woman; however, many women claim to experience tenderness as early as 2 weeks after conception. This tenderness usually only lasts for the first few months (3 to 4) and will fade off by the end of the pregnancy.
If you suspect you are pregnant you should purchase a home pregnancy test from your local pharmacy or wal-mart; however, you must know that just because it says negative it does not mean it's correct. Some of them will show false-negatives (no such thing as a false-positive; if it shows that you are pregnant then you definately are) so it may be more beneficial for you to go to your doctor for a for-sure pregnancy test.
