im going back to school in a couple of days and im gonig to be wearing the same clothes i wore last year. im really worried cuhz people care about that kind of stuff. and i can only afford a couple of jeans and a few shirts. i also only get about 200 dollars a month, but that's not just for clothes, it's for everything, my parents don't give me additional money. i really wish we could wear uniforms so i wouldnt have to worry about this. ive been trying to get a job so please don't tell me i should do that, my towns population is a million and jobs are scarce. ive been spending about 5-10 dollars on shirts, and 10-20 on pants. is there anywhere that could be cheaper? also if you're in the same situation, please tell me how you deal with this. haha, im dirt poor :/
LiSaxOBaBii answered Saturday August 2 2008, 10:00 pm: Seriously, go to yard sales. They may also be called "garage sales". You can get someone's used or maybe even unused clothes for about a dollar a piece! It's astonishing, really.
LM answered Saturday August 2 2008, 6:54 pm: Steve and Barry's stores are very inexpensive. I personally have never gone, but I've heard a lot of good things about that store and nothing is more expensive than I beleive eleven dollars; twenty in the 'designer' lines.
Kohl's has an excellent clearance section. I've seen jeans for six dollars, and shirts for as little as four. Aeropostale is good too, especially if you go at the right time; I've gotten my favorite pants there for 5.99. Cheap shirts are everywhere: Charlotte Russe, Aero, and even American Eagle sometimes. Look for a couple new pieces that you can mix with old ones. Like, no one's going to notice an 'old' tank top being worn with a new hoodie, because styles don't change very much. Don't worry too much about jeans, because that's another item that stays the same. I'd get a new sweater over a new pair of jeans, 'cause a sweater would be noticed more.
Also, set aside a couple hours and dig through all the racks at a local secondhand store. If you really look, you can find some amazing stuff. I've found new courdory pants from AE for 6.99, and one of my friends got an abercrombie sweater for the same price. Lots of those things still have the tags on, too! Savers [if it's near where you live] has '99 Cent Monday' where a certain color tag is 99 cents!
You've probably already considered it, but- have you looked at things you have that you could alter and/or dye? An old knee-length skirt could be re-hemmed into a miniskirt. Plain white tees can be dyed a new color, jeans can be re-hemmed [really. my mom's done some great things to old pants before] to look like new.
