Cartilage Piercing

Question Posted Tuesday July 29 2008, 2:30 pm

my friend got her cartilage pierced and ridiculously got it done by her friend who is not a professional. everything was sterilized but it's been about a week and a half and he ear is red, infected, and there's like puss surrounding the ear. on top of it, the earing got pushed into her ear so she's in complete pain.

my question is how can she take it out the least painfully way? she CANNOT go to the hospital today and it's really bad. please any help would be wonderful.

Make a salt water solution and keep dipping a clean paper towel in it and hold it on the piercing. That will help with the pain and irritation. She can keep doing this for as long as she wants but after a little bit make a new solution because you want to keep it warm and you dont want any of the infection being transferred from the paper towel back into the solution. After that just take it out as quickly but gently as possible. And again keep putting the salt water on it even after you remove the stud. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes!

If you go to any professional piercing studio and show it to them, they will usually take it out for you free of charge or advise you on the best course of action to take. Do not attempt to take it out yourself, the stress to the wound could cause extra scar tissue to form. In some cases, it is neccessary to leave the jewellery in for a while so that the pus can drain because sometimes removal means that it is trapped, causing an abscess to form.
