downloaded file

Question Posted Wednesday July 23 2008, 2:01 am

i downloaded a file that i shouldnt have downloaded.. and now my computer isnt working right. i downloaded it to my desktop and then deleted it and emptied my recycle bin. then i cleared all history, internet files, and cookies and did and xlg scan. when the scan finished it said all potentially harmful files have been deleted. i also did a norton antivirus scan. but now whenever i go on websites like myspace or facebook, it says internet explorer has stopped working and needs to close, and keeps closing out on me. what is wrong with my computer and how can i fix it? if i need to download any kind of programs it has to be free because i dont want to tell my mom because i shouldnt have downloaded the file i downloaded. thanks so much!

If you have advertisements popping up all over your computer as well as this problem, follow my guide here:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

If you only have the "IE has a problem" error, then your antivirus software probably broke it. Go to start, run, control panel. Click "classic view" on the left. Go to "internet options". Click "reset" in the "advanced" tab.

If that doesn't work, try system restore, located in "system tools" in the start menu.

And if that doesn't work, insert your Windows Install disk. Go to start, run or type windowsKey+R, and type:
sfc -scannow
This might mess up your computer a bit. You won't lose any data, but some things might stop working.

Good luck!

Depending on the kind of thing you downloaded, I would recommend getting Mozilla. It's nothing bad, it's a better internet explorer. It's faster too. =] Just goto google and type in "download Mozilla".

& Yes, it is free.

Or just download Spybot & AdAware (both that are free) and they might do a better scanning of viruses.

hope i helped. let me know.
