Lifeguard training i am in the process of training to be a pool lifeguard. Would anyone have any advice on what would be the best training to do in the gym to help improve my fitness and what techniques would I have to do to be a better swimmer in the water??

Well, obviously, swimming is a good way to train for being a lifeguard. Running/doing sprints/jogging is also good to help improve your cardiovascular system. I'd think weightlifting might help, too, as strength is always good.

well i happen to also be a lifeguard, and it bothers me how many of my coworkers have trouble swimming the 300 at all of our inservices.
i'm on a swim team, and i swim roughly two miles three nights a week. it keeps me in (very) good shape, and it's fun because i'm doing it with friends. it's exhausting sometimes, but it works very very well, so i would definitely advise that.
another thing is just core workouts, like push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, etc. basically, anything that you can do in your own house.
honestly, if you're not a good swimmer, you should NOT be a lifeguard. however, the red cross is a little lax on swimming ability. . .
