The moon and skin

Question Posted Sunday July 13 2008, 6:46 pm

Since lying in the sun makes your skin darker, will lying in the path of the moon make your skin lighter? Are there any other ways to get your skin really white? I want to look really pale. (Please nobody say "why do you want to be pale" or "ask micheal jackson" as i have seen those responses and they are not helpful or funny) Anyway, thanks!

Noo dont feel stupid!
I asked a question in biology and felt like an idiot. I still dont know exactly how the sun works :P
But I do know that what makes the moon shine is the sunlight reflecting off of its surface, including UV rays. Soo I wonder if you could actually tan at night. Thats an interesting thought...
But if you ask me, being a bit pale is pretty!
Its seemingly impossible for me to tan.
I just burn and then maybe get even paler. Not really. But when people say I need some sun, I just think of snow white.
So with that idea, I like to say Im not ready to risk skin cancer. I dont want to hear what some michael jackson haters hafta say. Hah, hope I helped a bit :D

That is very unscientific thinking. UV light results in tanning, no matter where it comes from. You will tan a bit in moonlight, though much less than in the sun.

You have a genetic range of skin colors that your skin will always be in. If you stay out of UV light all the time and your skin color isn't changing, then you've reached the lower limit. You won't be able to get any paler without applying alternative methods like makeup or perhaps surgery.

Lying under the moon won't help you. The only way you can achieve permanent lighter skin is with the use of chemicals which can be harsh to your skin and staying out of the sun. If you want you face to be pale, apply make up. If you're going for a very pale/almost white colour, stage make up will be your best bet. Having darker hair makes you look paler, as well as darker clothing.

I've never heard that theory, actually, but it doesn't sound very true.

I guess just stay out of the sun, and apply sunscreen every few hours, that is, sunscreen with a high SPF for both the UVA and UVB spectrum.
