Hey,

Tampons can be tricky at first. I didn't start using them until I turned 16, after I had my period for 3 years. I remember trying to do it when I was 13 and it was the most uncomfortable and painful thing ever. When I tried to do it when I turned 16 it was strangely easy and comfortable.
I didn't even use the instructions, I did what felt right for my body. Make sure you relax your vaginal muscles and keep them relaxed as you are inserting it. If you are worried about any mess (excess blood), you may want to wear a sanitary disposable glove or toilet paper. As you insert the tampon, you may need to adjust the direction its going in until it feels right. There is a sort of thresh hold, if you will, where it actually enters the vagina. This can feel extremely weird and you will notice the difference in firmness. Make sure when you reach this stage you keep your muscles relaxed. If you feel a wall, you are going in the wrong direction.
It is usually tilted upwards slightly.
Don't hesitate in using several tampons. Just be sure that if you put it in and then pull it out, you get a fresh one when you try again.
If you can still feel the tampon once it is in, it has not gone up far enough.
Be sure to wash your hands before and after.
Persist! Don't get disheartened, tampons can be really helpful when you've got your period, but hey, pads aren't too bad either.
Good luck darl. =]

Sarah.

if your having trouble using a tampon, maybe you should just use a pad...it's much easier and less painful

Wow, you must be really tight down there, eh? Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of tampons, but when I absolutely HAVE to wear them, I go with playtex sports. They're lightweight and very flexible; you can barely feel them. Get a brand of tampons that is enveloped in the little tubes of plastic with a lever to push it up. Once you have one, stick the plastic COMPLETELY into your vagina just before hitting the lever, and push the lever and pull the plastic out.
It's normal for it to hurt, some more than others, though. It's okay! If you choose to not use tampons at all, there's no shame! I'm a forever a pad lover, and have been wearing them proudly for 4 years. (:

Good luck!
-Amy

well your hymen might be strong.. so it is not breaking or streching enough to let the tampon in. but before you assume this try using water aroudnt he applicator of the tampon. try the smallest tampon you can buy. if water does not work doctors advise using water based lube. using lotion can give you an infection. and honestly even for me iv been using them for like 5 years and sometimes it still hruts or i get resistance when putting it in. go slow and try to relax. if it does not work after trying this you may want to see your doctor if you still would like to use tampons. They will do a simple procedure IF NESSESARY.. cutting the hymen so it stretches without causing you pain. it is simple and doesnt hurt. i hope this explains enough. good luck.
